The church of Santa Maria delle Grazie belongs to the Dominican Order. The architecture of the grandstand, built between 1492 and 1493 at the behest of the Duke of Milan, Ludovico il Moro, as a mausoleum for his family and built following a prject of Bramante, is one of the highest achievements of the Renaissance in Northern Italy. It took the place of the existing grandstand, finished just ten years earlier.
It was the second site after the Italian rock carvings in Valcamonica to be classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with the fresco of the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, which is in the refectory of the convent (owned by the Municipality of Milan).
The church has a simple facade, but overall the structure is complex. Also noteworthy is the Cloister of the Frogs, the Old Sacristy and various chapels.
