The Camparino bar was opened in 1915 in the very central potizion of the corner between the entrance of Vittorio Emanuele Gallery and Duomo Square, there where Gaspare Campari had already since several decades taken office with living space, restaurant and winery.
The Camparino soon became one of the most appreciated locations of the city: one the most fashionable, frequented by avant-garde artists and famous personalities of Milanese art nouveau (called liberty in Italy), style which later characterized its furniture.
In fact in the years 1923-1925 the original furnishings in Empire style of the Camparino bar were replaced with art nouveau furniture of the cabinetmaker Eugenio Quarti, with floral mosaics in a style which reminded that of Klimt by the painter Angelo d'Andrea and decorations by the craftsman of iron Alessandro Mazzuccotelli.
In October 1983 an agreement was signed between the company Davide Campari-Milano SpA and Esercizi Galleria s.a.s. with which it was granted the right to use the name "Camparino" as sign of the bar in the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery. The agreement was be renewed December 3, 1990 and terminated January 30, 1996. In 1990 the bar was expanded, also incorporating the rooms of the former State Library. 3 January 2012, after 16 years, the sign Camparino, designed by Ugo Nespolo, appeared again in the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery.
In addition to the ground floor room, the one decorated with art nouveau mosaics, the bar also comprehends some rooms on the first floor. The furnishings are in this case not antique, but they are nevertheless in style of the old Milan. The rooms on the upper floor offer a peaceful location with breathtaking view of the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery and of the Duomo.
