The Zegna Panoramic Road (technically provincial road 232 Zegna Panoramic Road SP 232) is the road, long ca. 45 km, linking Trivero with the Cervo Valley passing Bielmonte. The construction of the road was due to the textile entrepreneur Ermenegildo Zegna, from which it takes its name. It was inaugurated on December 10, 1938.
Along the way you can admire magnificent views. In the lower part the landscape is dominated by woods (and characterized by beautiful autumn colors games including all the tones of green, of yellow, orange and red), going up the beech trees are replaced by birch trees and conifers (the last ones planted in the first half of the twentieth century to stop erosion). In the highest areas, corresponding to Bielmonte, the landscape is barren, almost lunar, especially in autumn when the low clouds tend to tone down colors and contours.
The Zegna Panoramic Road crosses the Zegna Oasis, a natural park also due to Ermenegildo Zegna and famous for the blooming of the rhododendrons in spring and for the presence of rare Carabus olympiae, carabid beetle endemic of Valsessera, one of the valleys included in the oasis.
At the height of Bocchetta Sessera, just below Bielmonte on the side towards the Cervo Valley, you can admire the view even on the other side, towards the mountains, areas even wilder and virtually uninhabited (fig. 3).
During the winter season the Zegna Panoramic Road becomes very crowded because Bielmonte is the closest ski resort to the city of Biella. In spring and autumn, on the contrary, the Zegna Panoramic Road is the perfect destination for those seeking silent and solitary places.
