It is considered one of the best-preserved Romanesque buildings in the province, built on the foundations of a smaller 7th-century church and probably on the remains of an ancient pagan temple. The most noteworthy aspect of the church is given by the accuracy of the wall facing, made with blocks of serizzo, granite and Angera stone, by the richness of workings of the southern portal and by the presence, inside, of a fresco with the cycle of the Passion that has no precedent in the Varese area.
