Opens at the Royal Palace the first exhibition of the work of Guido Crepax to 10 years after his death and 80 years after his birth (15 July 1933). Cartoonist, illustrator of books, newspapers, album covers, advertising designer, art director of the theater, designer objects for consumer and creator of games in the family: for the first time, the exhibition focuses on the author of more than Valentina, the character that made him famous all over the world.
All the work of Guido Crepax owes much to photography and cinema, as evidenced by the structure of its pages comic, love the details and the narrative style of his storytelling. Hence the choice of about 90 original drawings on display - Crepax selected from the Archives of the more than 4,500 of the author - which reveal the strong bond of his work with photography and cinema: the first embodied by Valentina, a fashion photographer protagonist of stories told in images where the detail can make the general assembly in the second decipherable almost cinematic of his comics, a sign of the author for the big screen.
Over thirty silhouettes size, stage, movies, and special installations created ad hoc accompany the visitor in the path. The original drawings, most of them in classic black and white, will be placed in a special large collection of paintings and totems made entirely of recyclable cardboard and environmentally friendly.
Organized into 10 thematic rooms, the exhibition tells the cultural background of the works: the relationship of Crepax with Milan, the scene of many adventures of Valentina, the family and the home, the presence of citations of objects that have made the history of Italian design and international, looking carefully at fashion, costumes and trends of his time, references to painters and sculptors in its tables.
Also emerge conoscuti little aspects of his work: the myth of Louise Brooks for the first time along with the lesser-known White, Anita, Belinda, Juliet, to the last born, the young Francesca, the main graphic novels Crepax: by Justine Casanova, from Dracula to Frankenstein, by Dr. Jeckyll to Edgar Allan Poe, from Turn of the Screw in the process of Kafka's passion for the theater, with whom Crepax has occasionally worked as a designer with a love of music, from classical family tradition to jazz, almost cartoon soundtrack.
For the occasion, showing off the first three e-book of the stories of Valentina will be followed by the realization of the whole saga in digital heroin Crepax.
The Archive Crepax organizes guided tours of the exhibition in collaboration with Neiade.
