With the Andreas Waldmeier’s exhibition, Kromya Art Gallery inaugurates its own section dedicated to young and emergent artists, called •YOUNG
Waldmeier (Richterswil, 1982), Degree at the Zurich University of Arts, is presenting at Kromya Art Gallery a specific environmental project with new artworks created for his first exhibition in Lugano.
For Waldmeier the relationship between his works and the space, where they are located, is fundamental. Such relationship is created by a virtual transfiguration of the project which is then transferred on the canvas, choosing gradually limitations of shapes, colors and order. The artist brings the inner movement of the architecture to display, confirming the importance he gives to his pictorial power that interacts with the walls of the gallery and that attracts the public. The visitor is transported on a journey characterized by huge canvases and painted walls, abstract sculptures and small divided paintings which create the artist’s reality. The project becomes a global expression of his painting and signs and the visitor has to follow the path on the floor through the gallery rooms to enter physically into an overall pictorial universe.
“I would describe my painting as a linguistic medium. For me it is a kind of study about the possibilities and the limits of language”.
The panels subdivision leads often to a dialogue between opposing elements, linked by a fast and firm pictorial gesture. This universe is translated into a complex configuration of images, shapes, figures, fragments of a story or a pictorial tradition that provide only a complex idea of the Waldmeier’s world.
Each work has to be considered as a singular event, to which the visitor’s vision tries to give a meaning through a discovery process; the eye goes over the pictorial surface, trying to identify something, but it will not be able to find its meaning because it is a unique piece of art. They are enigmatic and impenetrable creations, a place, an in-between in which we are suspended among the search of meaning and the meaning itself.
